Firing Squad??

Well, it's been a really nice week with all the days off. I'm going to take full advantage of tonight (thursday night) off since it's my last night and I'm going back tomorrow for what promises to be a pretty busy weekend I'm sure. Last night I went to my restaurant for dinner. Corralejo was sponsoring a party in our private dining room and since I was off, I was able to attend. The food was great and the company was pretty cool too. I meant to take pictures - but I forgot.

I got a lot accomplished during these days off - but I still didn't go to the animal shelter and get a kitten. Everytime I got ready to do it I would realize that it's rush hour or whatever and since the place is all the way across town - I really didn't feel like sitting in that much traffic. I'm such a procrastinator. It's not really a big deal cause there will always be kittens there I'm sure.

Tonight since I'm staying in and taking it EASY - I'm actually thinking about playing some online poker. Wow - what a concept. Poker!! I haven't played in ages. I did walk over to the poker room last night after dinner to see a friend. The place was packed! I was really tempted to sit down and play - but there was a list and I was supposed to meet friends at Tabu. My friend Mary Ann was dealing so I stood by the table and watched a few hands. There was a REALLY drunk guy with tons of chips in front of him - but he refused to stack them. The chips were all over the table and I told him that he should stack them - but he was an asshole and he didn't want to. So, a few minutes later a little scuttle broke out. Mary Ann called the floor over to the table and the drunk guy was accusing someone of taking chips or something like that. Of course I had to open my mouth and tell him that's what he gets for not stacking his chips. He like blew up!! He started talking all this shit to me and I just walked away. A few minutes later I walked back over and he was gone. They told me he lost all of his chips in the very next hand. Gotta love it!

Death-row prisoner gets pregnant in solitary
Thu Oct 12, 2006 8:22am ET

HANOI (Reuters) - A death-row inmate held in solitary confinement in Vietnam for almost a year is pregnant and is seeking a pardon to give birth, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

The Lao Dong (Labour) newspaper quoted a police doctor as saying tests in September confirmed that convicted heroin trafficker Nguyen Thi Oanh, 39, was then 11 weeks pregnant.

The report said it was the first time that a death-row prisoner had become pregnant in Vietnam and that police were investigating how it had happened.

Oanh's husband was serving a jail sentence at another prison in another province, the newspaper said.

Oanh was due to face a firing squad this year after losing her appeal against the death sentence she received last year for possession of a billion dong ($63,000) worth of heroin.

Trafficking more than 600 grams of heroin in Vietnam is punishable by death or life imprisonment.

I don't know what's more shocking about this story...

A) You can get the death penalty for trafficking drugs

B) They still use a firing squad to kill people on death row

C) A woman got pregnant while i'm solitary confinement (something tells me that somebody will be losing their job soon)

A) and B) are part of the reason I'm glad I live in the USA. There are a lot of places in the world with law enforcement that I'd rather not be involved with.

Something tells me she won't be alone on that firing squad when they find the baby's daddy. Maybe Madonna or Branjelina will adopt the new orphan. Yes, that was bad, and I know it.
