Day One...
I'm so tired, this isn't going to be a long post. Work was annoying today because I don't have a desk or a computer yet. I sat at someone else's desk and trained all day. I'm learning to write up proposals, it's definitely a lot more stimulating to my mind than my last job was. The phrase "file this" didn't enter into any of my conversations today, so that's a VERY GOOD THING! I will actually be utilizing my writing skills in this new job so that's a plus.
I haven't worked this hard in a really long time. No computer, no e-mail, no yahoo messenger to talk to Waffles on, what the hell? I'll get the computer eventually, but for now no messenger. Sad Sad. I didn't get to read a single blog today. YUCK!
I will say that they have a stash of candy, snacks, and drinks etc. that they supply for the staff (for free), that would make Costco jealous. I will definitely gain weight at this place.
Oh, and so far, no love connections. You guys were right about "engineers" not being sexy. DAMMIT! I had such high hopes.
Well, that's it for tonight. I need food, and then I need my bed. Tomorrow we have a meeting at 7:30 a.m., so I have to get up EARLY!

What? No messenger? No blogs? What kind of archaic joint is this place? It's an outrage!
At least there's free candy and soft drinks. I used to work for a company that built vending machines and soft drink dispensing machines. We had lots of free stuff from out customers too. It was all so tempting all the time.

wow I guess I missed out on the comments about engineers; I totally could've filled you in on that one! I work in auto manufacturing and it's darn depressing to look at all the men around here; very little eye candy (not that I'm looking). Good thing I have some of that at home.

Good luck getting through the first couple of weeks. It's tough!
Oh, and who said engineers aren't sexy? I'm married to one!

My office gets all sorts of snacks and candy from Costcos and it's awesome!! But not so healthy. :) Good luck!

One thing about companies like that. Around the holidays there are going to be absurd amounts of See's Candies and such sent to the office. Contractors and developers who work with your company. Inspectors who they have to work with. I used to work for a real estate developer and it's scary how much stuff will show up. Get the workout plan ready, because despite how disturbingly hot you are now, it's gonna be dangerous!

As an engineer, I think I should be somewhat offended.
I am willing to make a small wager. If this is a company of more than 30 employees, at least one of them is a reasonably attractive male who is now or will be available within the next 30 days.
Engineering firms from all industries are generally 80+% male with the 20% heavily in the office management staff (i.e. you).
Unless the economy is totally tanked there, they have been or will be hiring younger engineers who tend to be unattached.
You have the necessary lures to draw out bashful engineers hiding in the corners and to get others to divert from possible existing light attachments.
So, they are there and you will find them.
I expect the posts from a couple of weeks from now will be about the idjit engineers following you around like puppy dogs.

Engineers aren't sexy? WTF?? Well, there goes my ego right out the window.
Maybe it's the TONS OF FREE CANDY and not the fact they're Engineers, huh? huh?
Okay, I'll admit it, the ratios aren't pretty.
Standard engineering environment:
Guys:Girls = 5:1
Attractive Guys:Girls = 1:1
Attractive Guys:Attractive Girls = 3:1
I always felt bad for the women in engineering. Sure, there's tons of guys, but so few that you'd want to be seen with. And I was taken ;) .
