Moral Dilemma

Last night and tonight I was scheduled for the patio at work. This is a primo section. Everyone likes to sit outside. The only problem is that it was really windy last night and the napkins and even the chairs were blowing all over the place. It's windy again today and the temperature has dropped quite a bit. So, I'm hoping tonight will be okay out there. I tend to get really cold easily, so if it's cold tonight, I'm going to have a tiny problem. Moving around a lot helps, but still.

I paid my rent today and my cell phone bill. It feels good to be all caught up. I actually owed roomie a few ducketts and I paid him in full - so we are totally square. Yay! Now, I just need to start putting money away when I make it instead of spending it. It's hard when you make $60 here and $80 bucks there and it's in like quarters and dollars and fives. You just spend it here and there and before you know it, your broke. I have to start hiding money from myself or something.

They called a freind of mine in for a meeting today at work. I know that means she's getting fired. That's how they do it. She was in the bottom of the sales report two weeks in a row. But hey, someone has to be in the bottom. Ya know? I hate to see her go because I like her. Luckily she has a 2nd job so it won't be tooooooo bad. On the brighter side, the more people they fire, the more shifts I'll hopefully get.

Last night I was a selling machine. I sold 20 pieces of glassware and I sold an all access card which is HARD to sell. That makes two that I've sold so far. We've been open three weeks so I'm not even averaging 1 a week yet. Hopefully that'll pick up though.

I had a little moral dilemma last night. Someone paid with a credit card and he signed the bottom and then he lef the tip and the total completely blank. For like 3 hours I walked around thinking about what to do with it. I was SO SO SO tempted to write my own tip in there. I mean, did he forget to fill it in? It's like, if you wanted to stiff a waitress, wouldn't you make sure you drew a line through those spaces? I certainly would. After I thought and thought about it. I decided to leave it alone and turn it in without a tip. I mean, it's just now worth losing my job over ten bucks or whatever it would have been. Ya know??

But, damn, I really wanted to do it. The old me would have definitely filled in my own tip. But, at least I can sleep soundly knowing I did the right thing.

Help!

I opened my e-mail today and I had a new message from The Hard Rock. They send us our schedules via e-mail, bu they also sent the new sales report and guess what?? I moved up up up. I was in the bottom 25% as you will recall. Now, out of 130 servers, I am ranked at 49. SWEET!!!! I moved way up! I worked my ass off this past week. I sold tons of alcohol, lots of fajitas which are high profit items for the Hard Rock, a shitload of glassware, and I even got a survey back. Yes, they rate us on the surveys too. I'm psyched! I was SO uncomfortable being in the bottom. I never want to be there again.

As a result, I went from getting one shift a week up to 3 shifts this week. Plus, I'm going to go in and try to pick up another day or two. I'm actually heading in tonight to pick up a shift. I just hope I get the patio. The patio is GOLDEN at night. Who doesn't want to sit outside looking over Las Vegas Boulevard as the sun is going down? It's quite a site.

So, that's the good news. Here's the bad news. My computer is infected with some sort of crazy virus called Windows Police Pro. It won't let me open Full Tilt. It tells me that half of the programs on my computer are infected. I can't even open the calculator. It wants me to pay like $49.99 to clean my PC.

I'm going through withdrawal. I wanna play poker! Has anyone heard of this Windows Police Pro???? I tried to open the add/remove programs thingy, but it won't let me open that. I figured I could just go in there and remove the Police Pro thing, but I can't open it. Does anyone have any suggestions?????? HELP!!! Waffles - tell me what to do!

Get em next time

Okay, so I don't want to totally dwell on this whole "tipping" topic, but I am so sick of people telling me that they don't tip over in Europe. I understand that. But, if I was going overseas on vacation or for work or whatever reason, I can guarantee you I would read up a book, watch a travel show or at least talk to someone who is familiar with the country. I would want to blend in and as they say "when in rome, do as the romans do". READ UP people! Learn teh customs and follow them.

Don't sit there and smile in my face, tell me how great the service is and then give me 3 dollars on a 50 dollar check. And, the worst part is that our clientele is more European than anything else. It's brutal.

I don't know why I didn't have to deal wtih this when I was working at the MGM. I always got nice tips there. I guess it's because the hotel and the restaurants are higher class.

Enough about me rambling. I have to work again tongiht and I don't want to go in there with a shitty attitude. I have to let it go and start fresh. Hopefully tonight will be better.

Here's another funny thing. There a guy at work. He works on the expo line which means he's the go between for us servers and the kitchen. He pulls the plates off the line and sends them out and then If I have an issue with a steak or whatever, I go to him instead of talking to the kitchen staff.

So, he's cute. I liked him from Day one. We worked together one night when I was running food and we always flirt now.

It never fails!!!!! I always hook up with someone when I start working in a new restaurant and usually it's someone in the kitchen.

Anyway, he is usually all over me at work and then finally yesterday he gave me his number. So, I tezted him a while later. I figured we could just do a texting thing back and forth for a while first. Oh no, he obviously doens't want to mess around. He goes straight to the point. He sends me this text message today that says "I want to fuck you tonight".

That's some awesome foreplay huh??? Fucker. Whatever. Now, I'm turned off. I mean, come on guys, can't you at least pretend??? Take me to dinner or something first. SEnd me sweet nothings. Hell, rent a movie at the very least and then make the moves. But, sending a text message telling me you want to fuck me makes me stop dead in my tracks and now I'm totally and completely NOT INTERESTED.

He's called me like 3 or 4 times in the past day or two and I'm just hitting ignore everytime.

So, that's pretty much been my day. I'm abot to grab some grub and get ready for work.

3 Babes and a Baller lost all 4 games last night. Oops. I had my all time low. I sucked. I bowled like a 75, and 80 and like 102. Brutal. Better luck next time :)

Try again

Okay, let me try this again...

I went into work Friday night to pick up a shift. Actually, I went in at ten a.m. and put my name on the list. I came back around 4 p.m. and there was 6 of us trying to pick up a shift, but my name was first on the list, so I won! In fact, I think all six of us picked up. Partly because they opened the patio and they didn't staff it. So, it was good!

Anyway, I was really upset when I saw the new schedule, they only gave me one day next week and one on call shift. The reason is because the sales report came out and I was in the bottom 25 percent. If you are in the bottom 25 percent, you get crappy shifts and you aren't allowed to trade with anyone or pick up. However, I've been picking up all weekend and nobody said anything so I'm happy.

I was soooooo upset when I saw the sales report. I think I was in the bottom because I work all lunch shifts. Do you know how hard it is to sell a steak or fajitas at lunch? Those are dinner dishes. The people that work dinners have it so much easier. When I worked Friday night I sold alcohol to every single table. When I work at lunch, people order ice tea and water. I understand, it is lunch after all. But, the managers need to take that into consideration.

They let a bunch of people go on Friday and I was so scared that I was going to be one of them, especially when I saw the sales report. Somehow, they decided to keep me. THANK GOD! I seriously think I might be suicidal if I lose one more job. I'm working my ass off at the Hard Rock. I love the company and the job.

The only complaint I have is the Europeans. Sorry if I offend anyone, but do you guys really think that a $7 dollar tip on an $80 check is good? It's so funny, because they tell me how great the service is, and they look so proud when they tell me to keep the change, and then I open the book and it's less than a 10 percent tip. BULLSHIT! It's so annoying.

I have to tip out the bussers, food runners, and the bar on my SALES. Not on my tips, on my sales. So, I actually have to dig into my pocket to pay these people if my tables don't tip me.

UGH! Anyway, I had lunch with two friends that I used to work with at the Department of Defense 15 years ago on Friday. It was awesome. They looked great and they said I look the SAME. I loved to hear that.

Now, I'm publishing before I lose everything. Go Ravens! They rocked it today!

3 Babes and a Baller

Sooooo, Saturday rolls around and I'm ready and psyched to go to work. I was scheduled for a food runner shift and let me tell you - it's a prime shift. Think about it. There are like 15 servers on each floor plus a full bar staff. Every server and bartender has to tip out 2% of their sales to the food runner. The food runners actually make more money than the servers do most of the time. Plus, I was scheduled to work on the main floor with the hot expo guy that I have a crush on. Not to mention, I was running food with my favorite gay - Michael. He's so fun and gay and flamboyant and we have the same taste in men. It's always a blast working with him. Soooooo, I'm pulling out of my neighborhood when my phone starts ringing. It's Hard Rock telling me not to come in. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT FAIR!!!!!!

I mean, I understand the drill. A new restaurant opens and they hire too many people. That's just how it is. They will inevitably lose people due to whatever. People will quit. People will get fired and people just plain won't show up. Not to mention, the economy is killing us. People just aren't going out to eat as much as they used to. It's a brutal situation. They keep shutting down the third floor, so whenever we are scheduled to work upstairs, we usually get a phone call telling us not to come in. So, I was a little bummed out.

I called my favorite mom in the world and she took me to see Whiteout over at Boulder Station and we had a nice meal at the cafe.

Sunday morning rolls around, and another phone call from Hard Rock telling me not to come in. I whine a little bit to the person on the other end and tell them that this is two days in a row and they apologize. THEN....... my phone rings a few minutes later and they tell me I can come in and work out on the patio since it's brand new and it just opened. They didn't have any servers for the pation schedule. BINGO!

It's perfect. Most of the sections in the restaurant are like 3 or 4 table sections. There are 15 tables on the patio! So, they split it up between me and another girl. We each had 7 tables to ourselves and then we took turns taking the 8the table. It was a blast! It was the best day I've had so far! My sales were high and we had a contest that I won!!!!!! We had to sell 3 fajitas and 6 pieces of glassware to qualify. I sold 4 fajitas (which are not that easy to sell at lunch, they are more of a dinner dish) and I sold 8 pieces of glassware!!!!!!!! I WON!!!!

My prize was this cute new Las Vegas Showgirl pin. It's brand new. They just came out with it. There is a series, so now I feel obligated to buy the whole series which is fine because I'm becoming obsessed with these Hard Rock pins and who doesn't love a showgirl pinned to their bosom??

So, kids - Christmas is coming up - feel free to send Hard Rock pins my way. I love em! I was just checking on E-Bay and they are all over the place. I had no idea how popular the Hard Rock Retail items were. Best of all, I get 50 percent off. If I really wanted to make money, I could go in to the store and use my discount and buy a bunch of stuff and then sell it on E-Bay. But, I'm totally not going to do that. I just want to start collecting the pins myself because they are so cool!

So, I made actual money on Sunday, I had a HUGE section, not one complaint, not one mistake and I won a contest. This is just such perfect timing. It shows the managers that I can handle myself in a huge section, I am trustworthy and I'm a great saleswoman. Hopefully they will keep this in mind when they are writing the schedule for next week.

Because let me tell you, this week is sad. Since they closed the third floor, I was only schedule for 2 shifts and an on call this week. I can't live on two or three shifts. It's not enough money!!!!

Enough about work. Bowling started tonight!!!!!!!! Mister pokerati himself joined the team with me and we had a blast!!!!! So, it's Dan, me, my mom and her friend. We have 32 weeks ahead of us and we are off to a good start. First of all, we are team 23 and that's my lucky number. Second of all, we are were on the lucky lanes that get the free drinks tonight and then third of all - we won 3 games and lost 1. I'm happy with those results. And how about our awesome team name...



Cute name huh???? Dan came up with it. That's why he gets paid the big bucks!

I got my car window fixed late last week. My friend Lisa's boyfriend owns a car repair place and he only charged me about $300 for everything, plus I got an oil change, so I was happy with that. Now I can go through a drive through without looking like a retard.

Wow. I just realized I haven't blogged in almost a week. Thanks Brandy and Lori for the reminder. hehe

Anyway, I was on call today for the Hard Rock. So, I called at 9 a.m. and they didn't need me. I was kind of wishing I could go in and make some money, but I'm also kind of happy to have another day off. I was supposed to be off again tomorrow - but I picked up a shift.

So far the job is cool. I'm super out of shape and not used to standing on my feet for 8 hours at a time, but I'll be okay. The money could definitely be a lot better, but it's a new restaurant, so I know I gotta be patient and give it a chance.

Other than that, not a lot going on. I've been doing a lot of sleeping. Lots and lots of sleeping. hehe

My newest dilemma is that my window is stuck down in my car. I can't very well drive around town with a window that is stuck down. I'm praying it doesn't rain until I get it fixed. Since I'm off today I'm heading over to my parent's house to see if Dad can do something with it.

Then, roommate has a friend staying at the Flamingo, so I'm supposed to go lay out at the pool with them later. And that's it. I'll write more later!

Some People - Sick!!

So, thanks for the advice about "the bitch" that lives in my parent's neighborhood. She's so bored and crazy. I hate hate hate her. Anyway, I know my mom would be totally mortified if I embarassed her. One reason is that she wants people to like her. She's really insecure about friendship and she doesn't like it when people don't like her. But also, and I probably forgot to mention this, but my mom works part time at the clubhouse in the neighborhood, so this "bitch" is her boss. ha ha Oops! I mean, whatever. It's just a stupid little partime job that my mom works just so she can have more money to gamble with. So, it's not a big deal, but I know that she doesn't want to get fired because her daughter is disrespectful to her boss. How embarrassing right?? Of course, most of the people that live in the community totaly hate this woman and they all complain about her.

Anyway, last night was Friends and Family at the Hard Rock and I went in with the highest of hopes. I mean, basically, the people eating in the restaurant know someone that works there, which means they should understand the value of tipping. Not to mention they are eating a full dinner for free, including a dessert and a soft drink. They only thing they had to pay for was alcohol.

So, first table I get leaves me a measly little five dollar bill. Jesus! There was four people at the table and they just had 4 free entrees and a dessert and lots of sodas with refills. Thanks for that big five dollars.

Next table. Things are looking up. I talk the two adults into ordering our signature drink, The Hurricane in a commemorative Hard Rock glass with the Las Vegas Hard Rock Grand Opening Logo. It's only available for this one week - the Grand Opening week and then we are discontinuing it. So, there is a good chance the glass will be worth some money eventually.

Anyway, I digress. They order two hurricanes with the glass that they get to take home and then I got the two younger girls (teenagers) to order a delicious berry smoothie in the take home glass. Awesome! The bill went from free up to $50 - plus - management LOVES it when we sell the glassware.

So, they eat, I bring out the check. I circled the price, told the girl I'd be back in a few minutes to take payment. I come back to the table, everyone is gone, and they left me 4 dollars. That's it! 4 dollars in total. I assume that was my tip. And, they skipped out on the bill totally. What the fuck????? This is friends and family. These aren't some random strangers from the street. I was pissed. I'm still pissed.

I'm still not sure what happened. Maybe they thought they didn't have to pay for anything? Maybe they thought alcohol was included. That's such bullshit though. I know that can't be true because when I asked the lady if she wanted a refill on the Hurricane, she said "oh, can we get refills?" and I said "well, yeah, the refills are actually half price, so it's a pretty good deal". And then she asked the food runner where she could find a money machine, so I'm guessing she realized that oh shit, she does need to pay for these drinks. But, instead of paying, she decided to skip out. People are just disgusting. I learned a lesson though. I'm going to be really thorough tonight when I am talking to the table. I will make sure they realize from the very beginning that alcohol is not included, but that everything else is free.

So, after those two really shitty tables, my night picked up and I had two much better tables. They both ordered alcohol, I sold some more glassware and they tipped me $30 and $25. And that was it. It was a short night, so I was out of there by ten thirty.

Oh yeah, Andrew Dice Clay came in last night with a 5 or 6 person entourage. I was about to walk out of the kitchen, but he came strolling in the "out" door with like a group of people and I'm thinking "nice work guys - you just went in the "out door". But, as I was about to say it, the girl standing next to me says "oh my god, that's Andrew Dice Clay". ha ha They were giving him a private tour. Nice. This is the beginning of what I'm sure will be a long list of celebrities I will see at the new Hard Rock. Celebs swarm to this place! I'm pretty sure Bon Jovi is set to perform there in a few weeks too.

I was supposed to be at work right now, but I switched with someone that wanted to work in the morning and I was thrilled to do it. I totally wanted to work at night anyway.

Lucky 800

Hey Kids - I just noticed that this little post right here is my 800th post!!! Wow!!!! Who would have thought it?? I'm the kind of person that usually doesn't finish things I start.

I get all excited about something and jump in head first, but then with time, it dwindles. My excitement, my interest, my pleasure - it all withers away. Thankfully, I'm still going strong with this blog. I still love it and I'll continue writing until it becomes a chore.

So, yesterday I got ready for work. I was all excited. I did my makeup really well. I looked like I was going to a very fancy event! My hair looked great. I was psyched. I arrived early, found a great spot over at New York New York, walked across the street and found out that we were shutting down. THere was a big water main break on Las Vegas Boulevard and a bunch of places lost water. The MGM was one of them. I heard they couldn't even flush their toilets! That's pretty crazy considering they had paying guests. Anyway, so our first night was a bust. It was disappointing.

It's noon here now and I haven't heard anything about tonight, so I assume we are moving on as scheduled.


So, let me tell you a little story about this bitch that lives in my parent's neighborhood...

As you guys know, mh parents live in a gated community for people who are 55 years old and older. Everyone in this neighborhood owns their house (no rentals), and they are VERY tight on security. It's not a gated community with a key code. It's a community with a guard on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They also have a very nice clubhouse with a gym, a few pool tables, two pools, a jacuzzi, a sauna, a card room and a few other amenities. I have a pass to get in the neighborhood, but I have to go to the gate with the guard. There are a few other gates, but you have to be a member of the community go get in those gates and you have to have an electric gate opener.

So, one day I saw someone going in the side gate (which is the closest gate to my parent's house) and I figured I would just follow them in. I mean, I'm in the neighborhood all of the time and I have my own pass. I was just being lazy really. So, the person in front of me, wouldn't go through the gate. I waited for them to open the gate, and they just sat there. I wasn't sure if their electric device wasn't working or if they were purposely not going through because they didn't want me to follow them.

So, I back up and head to the guard gate and I go through the proper way. I was annoyed because I was in a rush and instead of saving time by going through the side gate, I wasted a good five minutes because that person held me up. So, I SPED through the neighborhood. I was doing a good 40 mph instead of the 15 or 20 mph we were supposed to do.

I get to my parent's house. I sit down. I'm here 30 seconds and the doorbell rings. I open it and it's the "bitch". The "bitch" is the neighborhood snitch, bitch and nosey loser with no life. She runs the clubhouse and goes WAY overboard with enforcing the rules. She rings the doorbell and tells me that I'm not allowed to go through the side gate AND that I was speeding through the neighborhood and I need to go slower. It's like "GET A LIFE".

So, this is like two weeks ago.

Yesterday, I went up to the clubhouse with my dad. I'm not allowed to lay out at the pool without my mom or dad there. Nobody is allowed in the clubhouse unless they are with the owner of the house.

So, my dad and I go up there and we sit down by the pool and he decides to get up and go inside to workout. I continue reading my book.

A few minutes later, the "bitch" comes out to the pool and says "Carmen, you aren't allowed to be out here by yourself". And I said "my dad is right inside working out" and she says "well, he needs to be out here with you" and I said "okay, maybe you can go inside and let him know" and she says "NO, you can leave". In a very snotty tone! Right as she says that, my dad comes walking outside and I'm like "dad, you need to be at the pool with me". He's like "oh okay, I'll stay out here" and that was it.

I told him how rude she was and he said that nbody in the neighborhood likes her. I mean really, what is the big deal about me laying by the pool by myself? I'm not 5 years old. I wasn't hurting a sole. I was reading a book.

So, I get home and my mom starts going off on me. The "bitch" called her!!!!!! She told my mom that I was rude to her and that my dad left me alone at the pool. Are you fucking kidding me???????????? I'm 36 years old and she's calling my mommy to tell on me.

My dad was PISSED. This bitch is totally trying to cause trouble. If she had something to say, she should have said it to either me or my dad while we were there. I really need to get revenge on this chick. Do you guys have any good ideas??

Got it finally!

Yay! I finally finally finally got my Sheriff's Card. I went down there bright and early today - around 8 a.m. when they opened and I was in and out by 9 a.m. Perfect! I was a little nervous. I had no reason to be nervous, but I still was. They run your fingerprints and your social security number and they make sure you don't have any felony arrests or any warrants. I passed with flying colors and now I can officially work on the strip or in any casino for the next five years. woo hoo!

They said they were SLAMMED yesterday because like 400 people from the Hard Rock came in to get their sheriff's cards. I was SO lucky that I didn't have to work until 6:30 tonight. So, I was able to get the card today instead of yesterday.

Anyway, today and tomorrow we get to take turns waiting on each other and eating more free food and then starting Thursday we get to make money - FINALLY!!!!!!!! I cannot wait to start making some actual cash.

Yesterday I wanted to lay out at the pool. I got the bikini on and went down the street and the freaking thing was closed! They had a sign up saying "Pool Closed" but they didn't give any reason as to why it was closed. Today, the sign is up again. Such Bullshit! Don't they know I need to have nice, tanned legs for work. We have to wear dresses - sheesh!!!!

I'm packing up my stuff and heading to North Las Vegas today to lay out at my parent's pool. It's always fun hanging out over there anyway, they have good food.
